Keep a safe distance

Do not touch hot water, steam, wet electrical components, or an energized boiler casing.

Shut down only if safe

Use the normal boiler controls. If water is near electricity or you smell gas, leave the area and contact the appropriate emergency service or utility.

Limit surrounding damage

Place a container or towels around a minor drip without removing covers or attempting an internal repair.

Note what you see

Record the pressure reading, where water appears, and whether the leak happens only while heating.

Arrange inspection

A qualified heating professional can isolate the source and determine whether a seal, valve, pipe, or internal component needs attention.

Do not repeatedly refill

Continually adding water can hide a serious leak and introduce fresh oxygen that contributes to corrosion.
